How can managers accomplish more with less?

Human resources are an organization's greatest assets. When there are fewer people on the team, and when there are fewer resources for rewarding them, other tools become increasingly important. How can managers accomplish more with less? Here are some ways:

* Thank your employees at the end of a project or the end of a week -- send an email saying how much you appreciate their efforts during challenging times

* Tell them the truth -- the status of the organization, what work is coming in, the financial health of the business

* Set short term goals -- now is not the time for long-term planning. Make goals that can be achieved within 3-6 months

* Don't keep yourself apart -- roll up your sleeves whenever appropriate and possible
